Financial Stability

According to a recent study, one-third of working individuals in North Idaho do not earn enough money to meet their basic needs. Wages have not kept pace with the rising cost of housing, healthcare, childcare and education. Currently, 40 million Americans are working in low-paying jobs without basic health and retirement benefits. According to the most recent ALICE Report, 43% of households in North Idaho are struggling to make ends meet. For these families walking a financial tightrope, unable to save for college, a home, or retirement, United Way is here to help.

Our Goal Areas:

  • Individuals and families have access to the basic needs of food and shelter.
  • Promote financial stability and independence.
  • Adequate transportation for clients to access resources for basic needs.
  • Families in our community are self-sufficient and have financial stability.

ALICE is an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. To learn more about our work supporting local ALICE families, click here. Also, the United Way ALICE Scholarships have been a critical part of our work and helping families with young children stay in the workforce or complete their education.
