Born Learning Trail
Born Learning Trails are specially designed, interactive walking paths that turn an ordinary trip to the park into a fun, educational experience. Along the trail, colorful signs encourage parents, caregivers, and children to talk, play, count, move, and explore together through simple, age-appropriate activities that build language, literacy, motor, and social-emotional skills.

Born Learning STEAM Trail
This fall, we're expanding the Born Learning Trail program with two new trails in North Idaho and introducing a special STEAM Trail series that highlights Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math through outdoor exploration. Featuring a fresh, earth-toned design, the new trails will be installed in parks in Rathdrum and Osburn:
-
Stub Myers Park (Rathdrum)- Born Learning STEAM Trail Coming Soon!
-
Gene Day Park (Osburn) - Born Learning STEAM Trail Coming Soon!
Each STEAM Trail includes 15 permanent, interactive signs that guide children and families through hands-on learning experiences. Activities encourage participants to observe clouds, birds, trees, and insects; explore concepts like balance, gravity, movement, and direction; recognize shapes, patterns, and numbers; and use creativity and problem-solving skills to better understand the world around them.
Bring a Trail to Life
More than a collection of signs, the STEAM Trail promotes active learning through outdoor play and movement while serving as a lasting symbol of a community's commitment to children and families. It creates opportunities for meaningful engagement, sparks curiosity, and helps build the skills children need to thrive.
We're inviting local businesses and community partners to help bring these trails to life. Sponsors receive logo recognition on all 15 permanent signs, acknowledgment at a ribbon-cutting celebration, local media exposure, and the opportunity to make a lasting investment in the future of North Idaho's children.
