Day of Action (previously Day of Caring) brings together nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations for hands-on service projects that make a real impact across North Idaho.
This year, there are even more opportunities to give back with two Days of Action on May 12 and September 24.
All volunteer opportunities and project listings are managed through Volunteer North Idaho (VNI). Nonprofits are encouraged to submit projects now — submissions are open, and projects will be posted on VNI as they are reviewed and approved by UWNI staff and board members.
Business and community groups can explore available opportunities on VNI and sign up to volunteer as projects go live.

Day of Action volunteer opportunities can be found on our Volunteer North Idaho platform.
Thanks to this FREE platform, getting your team plugged into your community is quick and easy:
1. Find Your Project
Go to Volunteer North Idaho (VNI)
Click Day of Action Spotlight (left sidebar)
Select a Day of Action project
Copy the project link (you’ll need it)
2. Start as a Team
Click "Respond as a TEAM"
Sign the click waiver
After signing, return to the project and click "Respond as a TEAM" again
3. Create Your Team
Click "Create a Team"
Name your team: [Organization Name] – Day of Action 2026
Add yourself as Team Leader
4. Add Team Members
Note: Team members must sign the waiver before you can add them
Send them the project link and have them:
- Click Respond as a TEAM
- Sign the waiver
Note: You can reserve the number of spots your team needs on the project before all waivers are signed! This holds your team’s spots until you add names.
5. After Waivers Are Signed:
Add team members by email
VNI will automatically email each team member Shift details, Location, and Team Leader contact info
Project Proposal submissions are OPEN for September's Day of Action!
All projects must be submitted through Volunteer North Idaho (VNI) using your agency’s account.
Project registration is QUICK and EASY! Here's how:
1. Create a New Need
Title format: Project Title – Day of Action
(Example: Garden Clean-Up – Day of Action)
2. Project Description
Descriptions should include a brief overview of the project tasks volunteers will complete and project expectations (attire, tools to bring, physical requirements)
3. Volunteer Details
Select applicable Volunteer Interests from menu
Under Qualifications, select Day of Action Waiver
4. Date & Registration
Duration: Happens On
Project Date: September 24, 2026
Registration Close Date: September 10, 2026
5. Capacity & Hours
Set number of volunteers needed
Projects must be at least 2 hours in length (shorter projects will not be accepted)
Also include a brief description of how time will be spent.
Note: Lunches are delivered around noon. Projects scheduled near this time may qualify for a sponsored lunch.
6. Location
Enter the physical address where volunteers should report. (This is required for volunteer directions and lunch delivery.)
