New Born Learning Trail Opens at Travers Park in Sandpoint

On October 4, United Way of North Idaho (UWNI) celebrated the opening of the newest Born Learning Trail at Travers Park in Sandpoint! This trail, designed to inspire early learning through play, was made possible thanks to the generous support of the City of Sandpoint and The Library – Sandpoint Branch.

The trail officially opened during the grand opening of Travers Park, where UWNI engaged with children and families. Attendees enjoyed bubble science activities and received early learning kits to take home, sparking fun and educational experiences for young learners.

Parents also had the chance to enter a drawing for a large Barn Early Learning Kit, complete with a barn animal figure assortment, barn floor puzzle, and a large wooden barn playset—perfect for imaginative play and hands-on learning at home.

“We’re thrilled to see the new Born Learning Trail come to life in Sandpoint! It’s a playful, engaging way for families to connect, explore, and support early learning right from the start,” said Sara Welch, UWNI’s Early Learning Coordinator. “As part of the North Idaho Early Learning Collaborative, we know how powerful parent engagement is—and this trail is a beautiful invitation for families to learn together through play.”

Born Learning Trails provide a unique opportunity for families to learn together outdoors, encouraging early literacy, critical thinking, and curiosity through everyday play. UWNI is thrilled to partner with the City of Sandpoint and The Library to bring this exciting resource to the community.

Visit Travers Park and explore the new trail—learning has never been this fun!
