CDAIDE Supporting ALICE

Hospitality workers in Coeur d’Alene — servers, cooks, dishwashers, cleaners, and others — are among the hardest-working members of our community. Yet many fall into the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) category, earning above the federal poverty line but still struggling to afford basic necessities like housing, transportation, and healthcare.

CDAIDE meets this need head-on through their Care Program, providing one-time emergency relief in four critical areas: rent/housing, transportation, utilities, and medical/dental care. From January through July 2025, CDAIDE has already served 118 individuals, helping reduce essential household expenses, and assisted 44 individuals in gaining or maintaining stable housing.

United Way of North Idaho is proud to support CDAIDE with a $15,000 award from the 2024 Community Care Fund (CCF). These funds allow CDAIDE to continue offering crucial support to ALICE hospitality workers, helping stabilize households, maintain employment, and navigate unexpected financial crises.

CDAIDE’s dedication to impact is clear: eligibility is carefully verified, assistance is tracked in a custom database, and follow-ups capture both outcomes and personal stories of success. This ensures that every dollar and every interaction makes a measurable difference for workers and their families.

By focusing on this essential segment of the workforce, CDAIDE not only addresses immediate crises but also strengthens the broader community. Their work ensures that ALICE hospitality workers can remain resilient, continue contributing to our local economy, and support their families with dignity.

We are thrilled to celebrate CDAIDE and the positive impact they provide to ALICE hospitality workers and their families across North Idaho — a true example of community care in action!
