3rd Avenue Marketplace Expands Reach to Combat Food Insecurity in Post Falls

Formerly known as the Post Falls Food Bank, 3rd Avenue Marketplace continues to be a vital resource for individuals and families facing food insecurity in our community. From January through July 2025, the organization has served 2,627 individuals, connecting them with nutritious food and resources to help ease the burden during challenging times.

United Way of North Idaho is proud to support 3rd Avenue Marketplace through the Community Care Fund, providing $1,000 in 2024 to help cover supplies and equipment for their programs. These funds help ensure the organization has the resources needed to keep operations running smoothly and continue meeting community needs.

Their outreach is multi-faceted — from distributing flyers and posters at schools, libraries, and community centers, to forging strong partnerships with schools, local agencies, healthcare providers, and faith-based organizations. They also connect with residents through social media, community events, and word-of-mouth referrals, ensuring help is accessible to those who need it most.

One of their standout efforts is the weekend backpack nutrition program, coordinated directly with school counselors and administrators. This proactive approach allows them to reach students and families before hunger becomes a crisis.

Access to reliable food resources is especially critical for the ALICE population — households who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed — who often struggle to make ends meet despite working hard. By supporting 3rd Avenue Marketplace, UWNI ensures these neighbors have access to essential food and nutrition resources that help stabilize households and support children’s success.

Looking ahead, 3rd Avenue Marketplace will host their annual “Give Hunger the Bird” event on October 11, 2025, from 5–8 PM at the Stan Craft Jet Center in Hayden. This exciting fundraiser will help raise awareness and support for their ongoing programs, ensuring more families in North Idaho have access to healthy food.

Through the dedication of 3rd Avenue Marketplace and the generosity of the community, local families are getting the support they need to thrive.
