The North Idaho Early Learning Collaborative has secured grant funding for child care providers in North Idaho, with the intent of investing in early care and education infrastructure and increasing access to quality providers.  Grant amounts are available up to $5,000 per application, although funding is not guaranteed. Grants may be funded in whole, in part, or not at all.

Recipients must be a licensed provider in the state of Idaho, located in the 5 Northern Counties (Bonner, Boundary, Kootenai, Shoshone, or Benewah) and accept, or be willing to accept, Idaho Child Care Assistance (ICCP).

Grants are distributed from the following categories: 

  • Personnel: wages, stipend, bonuses, benefits 
  • Health/ safety: fire extinguishers, safety locks, background checks, CPR/ First Aid, etc. 
  • Operations: rent, utilities, maintenance 
  • Programs: meals, toys, books, art/ craft supplies, cots/ cribs, furniture 
  • Administration: office supplies, technology (computers, software programs, etc.) 
  • Professional development: staff training, conferences, quality coaching 

There are two convenient ways to apply for the grant.  

  • The first is an online form, which takes about 30 minutes to fill out.  

  • The second is a hard copy that can be downloaded and filled out offline, then emailed to keri@uwnorthidaho.org or mailed to our offices at United Way ATTN: Keri Cederquist, 501 East Lakeside Ave Suite 3, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814.

Information you should have ready to apply includes  

  • Years in operation 
  • Number of employees 
  • Steps to Quality level (if applicable) 
  • Total number of children in facility 
  • Number of children receiving ICCP 
  • Average monthly income 
  • Average monthly expense 
  • Budget that shows cost per unit of requested purchase 
  • Completed W-9 

A representative from the United Way will reach out and inform you if you have been selected, the award amount, and next steps.

Funding may occur as a direct payment to the provider/business, or as a reimbursement to the recipient following the submission of receipts. If approved, recipients agree to complete a report on use of funds prior to being eligible for any future grants. Funding is distributed from United Way of North Idaho (UWNI) and counts as income to the provider or business. Funding will be reported on Form 1099-MISC.

Yes. After approx. 6 months we request that you follow up with us to provide proof of how the funds were spent before becoming eligible for any future grants. The follow up report can be completed here.
